Description:

If you instinctively see communications strategically, and also possess a sure tactical sense . . .

If you practice your discipline with sophistication, and yearn to put your marketing skills to work for a great cause . . .

If you long to build and mentor a team, and also relish the feel of your own shoulder against the wheel . . .

If you have an appetite for change, and also hunger for meaning . . .

If you can reverence the past, and also imagine the future . . .

you might be the unusual “both-and” person we seek as our new Vice President.

With over a century of history in New York and a name recognized throughout the world, the Cathedral seeks the capable visionary who is inspired by this daunting and ennobling task: Renew and strengthen the Cathedral’s bonds with all natural constituents, and forge new ones with the people who do not yet know how meaningful this special place can be in their lives.

These attributes and skills are essential:

* Mastery of the traditional vehicles for connecting with target audiences: media, print, direct mail, etc.
* Understanding of interactive channels, social media, and digital tools to enhance the Cathedral’s marketplace presence
* Skilled planning for the future–and responsiveness to immediate needs
* An extensive network of contacts and sources, and knowledge of how to tap the city’s talents
* A feel for language that touches the poetic, along with a firm understanding of the virtues of good prose
* Communicative virtuosity to mentor those you manage and convince those you don’t
* Collaborative ease with the executive team, Cathedral Board, clergy, other staff, consultants, and myriad volunteers

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, the Vice President for Marketing and Communications works directly with the Dean, Cathedral staff, clergy, Board, consultants, and volunteers to develop and execute integrated marketing communications across all media and platforms, and coordinates marketing efforts with external cultural groups. The VP will play a major role in the Cathedral’s new branding initiative to project a more compelling story, enlarge public outreach, improve donor support, and delineate a twenty- first century identity consistent with its liturgical, educational, arts, and social justice responsibilities and its special voice as the seat of the Episcopal Bishop of New York.
